In the last decade the UN system has begun engaging business and financial institutions in a variety of ways. This is illustrated best by the UN Global Compact, the largest corporate responsibility initiative in the world, which met in Geneva early in July. Is this an innovative response to changing power relations in a global economy? The start of a wonderful relationship? Or might the role of the UN be undermined, or business lose interest once the initial flush of excitement has passed? Come and discuss with practitioners in this field…

Associate Professor Jem Bendell, co-founder of CSR Geneva and Lifeworth Consulting, will speak about the evolution of UN-Business relations over the past 10 years, before introducing:

Dr. Anthony Miller, Economic Affairs Officer, UN Conference on Trade and Development, will talk about UN efforts to encourage corporate disclosure on environmental, social and governance issues, and the current and possible role of the UN Global Compact;

Robert Lalka, Duke University, will discuss his work this summer at the UN Economic Commission for Europe and present highlights from the recently finalised UNECE Guidelines for Good Governance in Public-Private Partnerships;

Graham Sinclair, UN Principles for Responsible Investment, will introduce this major UN partnership with financial institutions committing to responsible investing, and that have 10 trillion dollars of Assets Under Management.

The talks will start at 7.30 pm sharp, and only be 5 minutes long, leaving ample time for discussions, so don’t be late.
